  1.     CCM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  4.     I have included this information so that you will know EXACTLY what
  5.     is being put on your system , and what files are being changed.
  6.     There is nothing I hate worse than software that spreads itself across
  7.     half my disk drive, and does not tell me what it has done.
  8.  
  9.     Installation of this software is handled by Stirling's InstallShield
  10.     SDK installer. You should expand the ZIP file into a temporary 
  11.     directory, then run SETUP.EXE to install the software.  When the ZIP
  12.     file is expanded, the following files will be present in the temporary
  13.     directory:

  15.     _SETUP.DLL
  16.     SETUP2.DLL
  17.     SETUP.EXE
  18.     UNINST. EXE
  19.     _ISDEL.EXE
  20.     _INST32I.EX_
  21.     DISK1.ID
  22.     SETUP.INS
  23.     SETUP.ISS
  24.     _SETUP.LIB
  25.     SETUP.PKG
  26.     DATA.Z
  27.     README.TXT

  29.     and will require approximately 840kb of disk space.  They can all be 
  30.     deleted once the installation is complete.

  32.     The installation will install the following files in the directory
  33.     that you choose for the software:

  35.     CCM30.EXE      281,600 bytes    17-DEC-95 00:00am
  36.     CCM30.HLP     149,602 bytes    17-DEC-95 00:00am
  37.     README.WRI      22,784 bytes    17-DEC-95 00:00am
  38.     SURVEY.TXT       3,073 bytes    17-DEC-95 00:00am
  39.     DEISL1.ISU       size varies    Current date and time

  41.     Additionally, the shared System file CTL3D32.DLL is included.  It is
  42.     the latest version of this file that I know of, and can be used to 
  43.     replace your current CTL3D32.DLL file if you allow it during the 
  44.     installation.  The current version that you have will be compared to
  45.     the new version, and if the new version is newer, you will be given 
  46.     the option of replacing the file or not.

  48.     The installation routine will also put a copy of UNINST.EXE in your
  49.     Windows directory.  This is done automatically by the installation 
  50.     program, and neither you nor I have any control over it.

  52.     The installation routine will also add two keys to your 
  53.     registration database in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key.
  54.     They are:

  56.     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Scott Craig\CCM\3.x\LocalPath
  57.     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\CCM30

  59.     The first one is used only to determine the path into which you installed
  60.     CCM so that the next time you update the software, the current directory can
  61.     automatically be located.  You can delete the entire "Scott Craig" key if you
  62.     want to, it will not affect the operation of the timer in any way.  The only
  63.     thing it will do is cause you to have to specify the desired directory the
  64.     next time you install CCM.

  66.     The second is used only by the setup and uninstaller, and may be removed if
  67.     desired, however you will not be able to automatically uninstall CCM if you do.

  69.     The installation routine will create a program group named "Connect 
  70.     Monitor" by default, or something else if you choose to change it.  
  71.     This group will contain shortcuts to all the sections of the program.

  73.     During the installation, you may receive a message that "MFC30.DLL 
  74.     exists on your system".  This executable was compiled as a standalone 
  75.     application, however it can also be compiled to use the functions 
  76.     within the runtime library MFC30.DLL.  If you already have MFC30.DLL
  77.     on your system, it contains many of the functions that are compiled 
  78.     into the standalone executable.  You could save about 140kb of disk 
  79.     space by using the "Shared" version of CCM30.EXE in place of the 
  80.     standalone version.  If you do not already have MFC30.DLL, you would
  81.     not accomplish anything by using the shared version since the DLL file
  82.     itself is about 300kb in size.  If you want the "Shared" version of 
  83.     CCM, send me an E-Mail message and I will send you the "Shared" 
  84.     version back as a binary attachment.  Other than the reduction in file
  85.     size, there are no other advantages to using the smaller version 
  86.     (there are no disadvantages either), so the choice is yours.

  88.     NOTE:    This program was designed for systems running Windows 95 WITH
  89.             DIAL-UP    NETWORKING FULLY INSTALLED.  If you have not COMPLETELY
  90.             installed Dial-up Networking, you will receive a message when 
  91.             the program is started stating that it cannot find SVRAPI.DLL.
  92.             The section of the HELP file entitled COMMON PROBLEMS AND
  93.         SOLUTIONS explains how to resolve this problem.

  95.     I have included a text file named SURVEY.TXT with this release.  If you
  96.     would like to fill it out, I would certainly appreciate it, however it
  97.     is completely optional!
